MLA Technical Services Round Table Spring Workshop–May 4th

Dear TSRT Members and Friends:

Would you like to update your knowledge about the exciting new field of metadata cataloging?

Would you like to be able to understand metadata protocol and be able to use it to organize your library resources?

Then the MLA Technical Services Round Table Spring Workshop will definitely be of interest to you!

This year’s program will offer an entire day’s training on the Foundation and Use of Metadata taught by Dr. Eunkyung Chung, an Assistant Professor at the School of Library and Information Science at USM. Dr. Chung, who recently finished her PhD at the University of North Texas, currently teaches two courses at USM in Metadata and Digital Libraries. She will share a wealth of current information about Metadata and its uses at the Spring workshop this year.

Cost is $15.00 per person which includes a boxed lunch from Quiznos and morning and afternoon snacks.

8:30-9:00 Registration with Breakfast Goodies and Coffee

9:00-10:15 Foundations of Metadata I

10:15-10:30 Break

10:30-12:00 Foundations of Metadata II

12:00-1:00 Quiznos’ Lunches on Site

1:00-2:15 Uses of Metadata I

2:15-2:30 Break

2:30-3:30- Uses of Metadata II

The morning program, Foundations of Metadata will include the definition, function and categories of metadata, metadata standards, metadata languages and technical standards

The afternoon program will feature examples of digital projects that were undertaken using metadata to organize library collections.

CEU credits will be available to all who request them. Anyone requesting CEU credits must attend both the morning and afternoon sessions.
