JOB DESCRIPTION
General Statement of Function: The assistant librarian will be involved in all phases of library operation. The position requires an ability to assist with informational needs, maintain documents, catalog, select and order new material, and control a circulation desk. The job includes working two nights each week. The assistant librarian works under the supervision of the Goodman librarian.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists students and faculty through individual and/or class instruction in library skills.
2. Assists in selecting, purchasing, and processing new materials of various formats.
3. Maintains documents in a systematic and proper manner.
4. Is responsible for the physical upkeep of the library.
5. Operates a SIRSI Unicorn automated library system.
6. Maintains knowledge of information retrieval (from print through the latest technology methods, such as online databases).
7. Assists in planning, developing, and implementing library programs and also promotes events which present a positive public image of the library.
8. Displays a working knowledge of MARC records for cataloging purposes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Library Science. Master’s Degree in Library Science preferred.
2. Five years of library work experience is preferred.
3. Understanding and commitment to the community college concept.
4. Excellent references from previous employers and/or professors.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Holmes Community College Library System, composed of the main library on the Goodman campus and branch libraries at the Ridgeland Campus and the Grenada Center, provides students, faculty, and staff with instructional materials which enhance and support the mission, programs, and activities of the college.
THE COLLEGE: Holmes Community College is a comprehensive community college district with campuses in Goodman, Grenada, and Ridgeland. The college serves a nine-county area that has a population of approximately 190,000. All three campuses are located near I-55. Holmes has a current enrollment of over 5,100 students.
