Public Library Director @ East Baton Rouge Parish Library System

The East Baton Rouge Parish Library System provides public library service for the City of Baton Rouge and the Parish of East Baton Rouge. Serving a population of 411,477 the system consists of a Main Library and 12 branches, has a collection of 1.9 million items, and a staff of 466 (318 FTE), and an annual circulation of 2.3 million. The library is funded by a ten-year 11.1 mill property tax that generates an estimated $30 million annually for the operation and maintenance of the existing system as well as a pay-as-you-go capital improvements program. The tax is to be renewed in 2015.

As Louisiana’s Capital City, greater Baton Rouge is the largest city in Louisiana. It is the home of Louisiana State University, Southern University, several large hospitals and an internationally-known biomedical research complex. Major Responsibilities - Under the direction of the Library Board of Control, the Director is the chief administrator of the library system, has oversight responsibility for operating and maintaining the existing system, and for planning and managing the construction of replacement libraries. The Director must provide leadership for the creation, development, and implementation of innovative services, embrace technology to enhance information delivery, and develop effective working relationships with city and community leaders.

Qualifications - An ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree and five years of supervisory management and financial experience as a Director and/or Assistant Director in a medium to large library system. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, possess the ability to work effectively with the Library Board, city administrators and staff, experience in planning and constructing libraries, and provide imaginative leadership that utilizes the latest electronic resources but is grounded in the realities of proven public library service and budget constraints.

Compensation - Pay range for the position is $72,388 - $100,202, with full benefits package.

Business Reference Librarian and Assistant Professor @ University of Mississippi Libraries

The University of Mississippi Libraries seeks a creative and dynamic
Business Librarian to join a reference department delivering user-centered
services to the School of Business Administration as well as to the general
university community.

Under the direction of the Head of Information, Outreach and Delivery
Services, the successful candidate will:
- Provide instruction, including web content and online tutorials;
provide liaison and collection development services for the School of
Business Administration ,
- Develop personalized reference / instruction services to the School
of Business Administration,
- Provide in-person and virtual reference services at a general
reference desk, some evening hours required,
- Participate in a general library instruction program supporting
composition and Freshmen Seminar courses,
- Join in library outreach and other innovative initiatives.

Qualifications: ALA accredited master’s degree by date of employment;
experience with or course-work on business reference sources, excellent
organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; knowledge of or
course-work in reference methods and/or resources, strong knowledge of
emerging technologies, and the ability to apply these technologies to a
diverse range of library applications.

The position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment reporting to
the Head of Information, Outreach, and Delivery Services, position available
June 1, 2008. Minimum annual salary is $38,000.

Director of Library Services @ University of North Alabama

Search Extended: The University of North Alabama (UNA) seeks further applications for the position of Director of Library Services. Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost, the Director provides collaborative leadership to develop and implement a shared vision of the library in support of the University’s mission. Responsibilities:

UNA seeks an experienced, effective leader to guide the provision of evolving, relevant library services. As chief administrator of Collier Library the Director provides vision, leadership, and accountability through collaborative strategic planning and assessment, policy development and implementation, budget preparation and administration, integration of appropriate technology, supervision of faculty and staff, support for professional development, and consortial collaboration. In cooperation with the campus community, the Director of Library Services develops and guides initiatives that support the learning, teaching, research, service, and administrative goals of the University. Working within a system of shared governance, the Director represents the library and its faculty/staff to internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

· ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and/or information science (or its equivalent)
