Responsibilities
The Director of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library (CLPL) is responsible for the administration and financial management of a level three library with three smaller satellites in nearby towns. The position reports directly to the Administrative Board of Trustees of the CLPL. Administration includes, but is not limited to, working with the CLPL Board of Trustees, the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors, the Columbus City Council, and the local Friends of the Library to obtain funding. Duties include the supervision of 10 full-time and 8 part-time staff in order to provide traditional and emerging library service and the development, revision, and administration of library policy. This is a “hands-on” position that requires the director to be responsible for accounts payable, payroll, grant writing, computer system administration, e-rate applications, and local, state, and federal reporting. The director must be able to work well with the library patrons and maintain the excellent public relations between CLPL and the communities it serves.
Requirements
Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Library Science from a college or university with a school of Library Science accredited by the American Library Association (ALA/MLS). Three years of library experience are preferred. Applicants must possess basic computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Previous experience working with the public is desirable. One year of administrative or supervisory experience is preferred. Experience with library automation systems, specifically Polaris ILS, is helpful.
Salary & Benefits
The salary is $45,000 to $58,000, depending on previous experience. CLPL offers generous personal leave and sick leave benefits, 100% paid state health insurance, participation in the state’s life insurance program, deferred compensation, the state retirement plan, all state-approved holidays per year, and workman’s compensation.

The University of Mississippi Libraries seeks a creative and dynamic Reference Librarian to join a reference department delivering user-centered services to the university community.
Under the direction of the Head of Information, Outreach and Delivery Services, the successful candidate will:
* Provide in-person and virtual reference services at a general reference desk, some evening hours required.
* Participate in a general library instruction program supporting composition and Freshmen Seminar courses.
* Develop an instruction program, including web content and online tutorials, for the Department of English and other departments as assigned.
* Provide liaison and collection development for the Department of English and other departments as assigned.
* Join in library outreach and other innovative initiatives.
Qualifications: ALA accredited master’s degree by date of employment; degree in a humanities discipline, excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; knowledge of or course-work in reference methods and/or resources, strong knowledge of emerging technologies, and the ability to apply these technologies to a diverse range of library applications.
The position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment reporting to the Head of Information, Outreach, and Delivery Services, position available August 1, 2008. Minimum annual salary is $38,000.

Job Description:
Assists with the management and operation of historical manuscript collections and University Archives.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
Determines the appropriate intellectual organization and physical arrangement of unique primary source materials.
Analyzes the intellectual content of collections of primary source materials and prepares descriptive guides and registers.
Conducts historical research on the principle subject of each collection and the preparation of accurate biographical and historical sketches for inclusion in collection guides.
Provides assistance to campus offices in the determination of which records have archival value, at what point in time they should be transferred to the archives, and in what manner they need to be prepared and documented.
Develops knowledge of archival and library resources for the Cook Library and the McCain Library, collects and maintains collection use statistics, and prepares monthly reports.
Researches and responds to telephone and mail reference inquires and provides reference assistance to on site researchers relating to all historical manuscript and University archives collections.
Accession historical manuscripts, University records, oral histories, theses, dissertations, and other primary source materials acquired by McCain Library and Archives.
Creates case file records for each donation, documents and acknowledges receipt, and prepares preliminary bibliographic control records for each accession.
Ascertains the need for and performs technical conservation procedures such as document cleaning, repair, deacidification, and humidification in order to preserve the intellectual and artifactual value of archival materials.
Maintains library and archival databases, adapts software for new applications, and provides hardware and software technical assistance to staff and students.
Provides editorial and production technical support for the design, updating, and publication of library and archives bibliographic guides as well as other library publications.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in a timely, fair, and objective manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
