Library Advocacy Day – Feb. 10th
10th Feb 2009
Our MLA Advocacy “Pie” Day is still set for February 10th. As you know from the earlier e-mail (below), we will be delivering pies to the legislators at the capitol. The MLA Legislative Committee will have the pies on the second floor of the capitol from 10-1. Each pie will be packaged and ready to go with your legislators name and office number if they have one. We are currently scheduled to be in Room 202 for the first hour for you to pick up the pies, but this could change if the space is needed by the legislature. If we are not in room 202, there will be some committee members on the second floor near the railing around the opening up to the rotunda to direct you to our location.

At the December MLA Executive Board Meeting there was a brief discussion about considering a change to our Library Advocacy Day activities.
In light of the economic climate we are currently facing, a decision has been made to have an Advocacy Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, February 10th instead of hosting a reception for the legislators.
We felt that many of your travel budgets had been cut or were non-existent. With the $25+ registration fee for each participant, many libraries spent a large sum on this event.
The MLA Legislative Committee is hoping that as many of you as possible will be able to make the trip to our state house.
We will be delivering mini pecan pies to each legislator. It would certainly mean more to the legislators if a librarian or trustee from their home areas made the delivery.
We hope to have a large contingent of library supporters at the Capitol on the 10th.
We will be giving you more details in the near future.

Just wondering if there were more detailed plans for February 10th. Where will librarians meet up and what time? We hope to send at least a few folks from our system, but that depends on the times involved.
Thanks for working to make this a little easier on the libraries this year.
