Join us for Pie Day – February 21st

Members of the Legislative Committee will meet at MLC at 10:30 Thursday, February 21, at MLC. Following the Legislative Committee meeting there will be a “briefing” on talking points (see attached “Tip” sheet.) Please plan to attend this briefing!

10:00 Lynn meets with Committee Chairs
10:30 Legislative Committee meets
11:00 Legislative briefing with Sharman

Lunch on your own

At the Capitol:
12:45-1:00 Meet in Room 202 to pick up “Pie Bags” – which will be arranged by library system and region of the state, with the legislator’s name, home library system, and office # (if there is one). This is your opportunity to place notes from your patrons in your legislator’s bags – before they are delivered!
1:00 – 2:15 Deliver bags to – and visit with – Legislators.

On the third floor, the Senate Chamber is on one end of the building and the House Chamber is on the other end. The public viewing areas (galleries) of both chambers are located on the fourth floor. You should try to arrange to meet with your legislators by checking in at the desks in the entrances to the chambers. Pages will take notes to legislators on the floor and ask them come out to meet with you. You may ask to be recognized from the gallery. Please bear in mind that your legislator may not be on the floor, but in a meeting, or visiting with someone else in the halls. Also, please remember that legislative districts may cross over into another library system’s service area. Those legislator’s bags may be arranged with another library system, but you should still seek them out to visit.

Any Pie Bags NOT PICKED UP by 2:00 will be delivered by Legislative Committee members.

I am urging you to attend. It really is a great experience, and if you have never been to our State’s Capitol, you need to see it. Let your legislators know you plan to visit, so they will be expecting you.

REMEMBER: EVERYONE WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH SECURITY. Plan to be scanned!
