VIRGIA BROCKS-SHEDD
1943-1992

Virgia Brocks-Shedd was born in Carpenter, Mississippi. She graduated from Piney Woods School in 1960. While attending Jackson State University, she studied under Dr. Margaret Walker Alexander and earned a B.S. degree in 1964. She received her masters degree from Atlanta University in 1965. Virgia served as Director of Library Services at Tougaloo College 1985-1991. She was a great leader, role model, educator, actress, poet and mother.

- Founding member of the Society of Mississippi Archivists
- Member of the Daughters of Margaret performing arts group
- Community Service Involvement included:
- Served as a member of Jackson Writers’ Group
- Served two terms as President of The Piney Woods International Alumni Association
- Held membership in the NAACP
- Served on the Board of Directors of the Repertory Theatre
- Her published works include:
- “Southern Roads/City Pavements… and We Must Rise”
- “Untitled” and “Definitely” in Mississippi Earthworks
- “Mississippi Woods”
- “Mississippi Writers: Reflections of Childhood and Youth”

yes,im from jackson,ms.Iwent to piney country life school with her daughter vicki.VIRGIA was a very close friend of my sister,MARY ANN ADAMS.SHE was avery close friend of mind too.
