Delta State University seeks applications from energetic, service oriented individuals for the position of Instructional Resources Center Librarian. Library Services includes Roberts–LaForge Library, Instructional Resources Center, and Capps Archives and Museum. Sirsi Unicorn Integrated Library System is used.
ENVIRONMENT: Delta State University, one of eight public institutions of higher learning in Mississippi, has an enrollment of approximately 4,100 students, of which 24% are engaged in studies at the graduate level. The university provides a comprehensive curriculum, offering 15 baccalaureate degrees in 45 majors, nine master’s degrees in nineteen fields, the Educational Specialist degree, and the Doctor of Education degree. Roberts-LaForge Library contains more than 367,000 volumes, 832,000 microforms, 20,000 audiovisuals, 63,000 netLibrary books, 1,180 current hardcopy journals, 24,000 electronic journal titles, is a selective U.S. Government Documents Depository, and provides access to over 100 databases.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership for the Instructional Resources Center and supervises 1.6 FTE and student assistants. The center houses a wide range of material including teacher resources, state adopted textbooks, juvenile literature, reference sources, and the library’s entire A/V collection. Coordinates center public services, outreach activities, staff development, and training. Provides oversight for collection assessment and collection development. Participates in goal setting, planning, evaluation, and policy development. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be necessary.
REQUIRED: MLS from an ALA-accredited program; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with a strong service orientation; knowledge and experience with electronic information technologies; demonstrated ability to provide creative and effective leadership in a collegial environment; teaching experience with an aptitude for information literacy instruction is highly desirable.
12-month position with faculty rank and a tenure & promotion policy for librarians. Salary will be $43,000. Supervising the Patent and Trademark Depository library service. Compiling data for the Mississippi section of the Statesman’s Yearbook. This is professional library work with responsibility for planning, coordinating, and serving as a consultant for either public library systems in specific areas of the state or providing specialized services throughout the state directly to public library systems.
