Choctaw County Library System Administrative Board of Trustees seeks a creative and inventive Library Director who is looking to develop a new vibrant public library system in Ackerman, MS. The Board of Trustees are searching for a self-starter with a passion for improving literacy and computer skills for a diverse rural community. 


Leadership, interpersonal, and team-building skills are essential, as are the ability to analyze community needs and develop programs to meet those needs. A successful applicant must be passionate, innovative, and public service oriented with excellent library and technology skills to meet growing needs of the public.


Report to five-member Administrative Library Board of Trustees. Supervise two part-time employees. This position acts as the primary employee for the Library system. The Library Director will serve in an administrative capacity and as the head librarian. This position oversees the materials collection, automated library system, and public access computers. Perform public service functions in the branch. Manage annual budget. Develop and deliver library programming. Apply for public and private grants. Compile library statistics and maintain proper records management. Build positive relationships with local governing officials in cities & county. Develop relationships with local community organizations, and public schools to improve children and young adult services. Oversee building repair and maintenance. Use state Accreditation Program benchmarks to guide long-range planning. Implement technological innovations and other 21st Century library services to meet changing needs of Choctaw County residents.



· Master’s degree in Library Science from American Library Association (ALA)-accredited library school.

· Strong interpersonal skills. Self-motivated. Creative. Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office products. Experience in maintenance of websites and social network. Dependable personal transportation.

·Residence in Choctaw County or relocation within six (6) months of employment.

· Travel to library-related continuing education programs and conferences.

· Library experience and supervisory background strongly preferred.

· Preferred qualifications: Experience in public libraries, budget management, and programming for children and young adults.



Competitive salary based on experience. Benefits: Personal/medical leave, health & life insurance, and participation in Mississippi Public Employees' Retirement System. Job-related travel expenses reimbursed.

Choctaw County Library System is headquartered in Ackerman, MS. The Library System consists of one library branch; a shared integrated library system; and a service population of approximately 8,500 residents.
