The Jackson/Hinds Library System is “a great place to work!  We are looking for a professional to help to shape the future of the Jackson Hinds Library System as the head of public service. We are looking or a passionate leader with experience in managing library services, programs, partnerships, and community outreach in a multi-branch library system.

The Jackson-Hinds Library System (JHLS), Jackson, MS, one of the largest systems in the state of Mississippi, invites applicants for the position of Deputy Director. JHLS serves a population of 222, 679 (in 2022) and 15 full-service branches; a staff of 75 full-time employees.  A 14-member Administrative Board appointed by the city county officials governs JHLS.


Jackson is the capital of the state of Mississippi.  The Deputy Director is a direct report to Executive Director, Floyd Council.


Qualifications:

• ALA-accredited MLS required, with additional degree or course work in

  management preferred.

• Five years of progressively responsible professional public library

 experience, five of which include multiple branch management or

 supervisory responsibilities.

• Effective management, project management, and leadership ability.

• Successful record in Public Service budgetary planning.

• Knowledge of current library technology and social media platforms.

• Knowledge of collection development.

• Experience in strategic planning and able to lead public service under

   three areas of focus for community, education, and digital life:

  1. Community: The Jackson Hinds Library System will serve as the most trusted community place in the City of Jackson and Hinds County right behind places of faith.
  2. Education: The Jackson Hinds Library System will serve as the principal education partner with the Jackson Public School System, the Hinds County School District, and the everyday people school of life in Jackson and Hinds County.
  3. Digital Life: The Jackson Hinds Library System will transform from a traditional public library system into a new information technology driven 21st Century Library System with use of partnerships and technology based resources to support citizens of Jackson/Hinds with connectivity, technology learning culture, home office support at the library, and free mobile devices that bring the world to patrons inside and outside of our library buildings.


Compensation:

Full benefits package; starting salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
