About the Position
MLC’s Information Services Department serves the information needs of public library staff, legislators, state employees, and the general public through our collection of resources, reference and research assistance, and special collections. MLC’s Collection Management department ensures the quality cataloging of MLC’s print collection and special collections, which include a variety of traditional and nontraditional library material types. In addition to cataloging and processing these materials, this position also catalogs items for the agency’s Federal Depository Library and State Document Repository programs. This position will be responsible for developing training and outreach materials for programs in this department, including OCLC’s Cataloging and Metadata subscription for public libraries.

Excellent attention to detail, research, and problem-solving skills; ability to work collaboratively as part of a team; knowledge of cataloging best practices; desire to improve library service for all Mississippians. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years of experience. Agency preferred qualifications: Requires knowledge of cataloging methods, best practices, and tools. Experience with OCLC’s Cataloging and Metadata Subscription, SUDOC classification, and cataloging non-traditional items preferred. Preference may be given to those with public speaking and training development experience.
